Individuals interested in learning the practices of social emotional learning, and how to incorporate those strategies for creating healthy, inclusive classrooms where all students can thrive. This certificate program will help school personnel develop integrative strategies beneficial inside the classroom and school-wide.
What You Learn
This pathway offers the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to promote long-term change and build positive school environments with support systems to reach the whole child. The certificate equips school professionals with a contemporary understanding of complex social, cultural, and policy issues and best practices to build school programs that engage with the real world.
How You Learn
This is a fully online, asynchronous program designed for the student who needs a flexible schedule. There are no in-person or live components. Students will engage in coursework through an online learning management system, complete assignments, participate in online discussions, and collaborate on group activities. Students will complete one 3-unit course every 8 weeks. All online students must have access to a computer with a strong internet connection and Microsoft Office: both Word and PowerPoint. This program is built with busy educators in mind and combines the benefits of a supportive cohort approach and a flexible learning environment.
Please note: There is a 5-day overlap between the Summer I (SU1) and Summer II (SU2) terms.
Career Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, candidates will earn a 15-unit graduate certificate in Social Emotional Learning, Character, and Ethics (SEL) to provide cutting-edge content for school professionals. Please note: You can also earn your Master of Arts in Educational Leadership degree with an emphasis in SEL, Character, and Ethics (30 units).
Prerequisites
Applicants must meet the admission requirements for a graduate degree in the School of Education. This program is open to credentialed and non-credential individuals.
